The SSCP board, represented by Patrick Birkle, issued the following statement to the Saint Helens School board during the March 20th, 2013 school board meeting:

“The ShoeString Community Players have a thirty year relationship with the St. Helens School District. This includes key support in the construction and equipping of Olmscheid Auditorium, contributions to the maintenance of and improvements to the auditorium, the award of scholarships to St. Helens Hgh School graduates, and countless volunteer hours helping with Saint Helens High School Drama Department productions. We understand the need of the school district to ensure that its facilities are safe and secure and that use of district facilities by other organizations does not impose a financial burden on the district.  We are troubled, though, by the extreme change in the way that the district is dealing with the ShoeString Community Players this year as we seek to perform our annual summer musical in Olmscheid Auditorium. We cannot produce a show under such conditions. Therefore, we want to immediately begin the process to remove the property of the ShoeString Community Players from Saint Helens High School. In order to do this, we request that the school district designate an administrator to meet with a representative of the ShoeString Community Players Governing Board in order to conduct an inventory of items that belong to the ShoeString Community Players and to facilitate the removal of those items from the high school. Thank you.”

The SSCP summer production has been officially moved from the Saint Helens High School auditorium to the Scappoose High School auditorium on the same dates.  Thank you to all involved who have helped to keep the summer production on track.
